Study Shows How Stroke Affects Hand Function; Provides Roadmap For Rehab
A person whose hand function has been affected by a stroke can release an object more quickly when the affected arm is supported on a platform, but the support does not make it easier to grip the object, according to a new study. The study also found that active muscle-stretching exercises improved how quickly the stroke survivor could grip an object, but made release of the object more difficult. These findings show how a stroke affects hand function, and provide a roadmap for rehabilitation.

OSI Pharmaceuticals Announces Acceptance Of Tarceva Supplemental New Drug Application For Review By The U.S. Food And Drug Administration
OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: OSIP) announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted for filing and review the supplemental New Drug Application (sNDA) for the use of Tarceva® (erlotinib) as a first-line maintenance treatment for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have not progressed following first-line treatment with platinum-based chemotherapy. Based upon the March 17th receipt of filing the FDA Prescription Drug Fee Act (PDUFA) review date will be on or about January 18, 2010.

Dietitians Association Of Australia Welcomes New President

Australia"s leading nutrition organisation, the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA), has elected Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian, Mrs Julie Dundon as President of the Association. Mrs Dundon has a wealth of dietetic and management experience and has previously served as Vice-President and a Director on the DAA Board. She is the Director of Nutrition Professionals Australia, a nutrition practice based in Adelaide. "I am honoured to be elected President of the DAA. I look forward to the opportunity to continue the efforts of all members to improve nutrition for all Australians. Nutrition underpins our health and DAA will continue to advocate for nutrition at all levels," said Mrs Dundon of her appointment.
